Welcome to Pardon Our Sawdust!

We are just two brave (dumb?) DIYers who bought a fixer-upper and decided to tackle renovations on our own.  I am an attorney by day, and a DIWhynot-er and blogger by night.  The Boy (my loving and supportive boyfriend) is also an attorney, running a firm by day and acting as my subcontractor on nights and weekends.  Our dog, Dirty, is a sweet girl who likes wiggling her butt into our construction zones.

So far, no project has been too large for us to tackle!  We have torn down walls, gutted the kitchen down to the studs and then rebuilt it, laid unfinished hardwood floors in one bedroom (and then finished them!), and we are 90% done with a bathroom, including turning an absurdly large walk-in shower into a tub.  We had no experience, and are completely learning as we go (shout out to YouTube, Google, Miguel, and that really nice guy at Home Depot!).  I was uploading progress photos to Facebook, and so many of our friends and family have enjoyed watching our adventures that we decided to let complete strangers have a laugh at our expense.

While I have been known to DIY in the strangest of apparel, from the Bikini Drywall Incident circa April, to the Grouting in Underwear Debacle of 2012, the Boy works almost exclusively in his undies.  (Don’t judge – we live in Florida!)  When I decided to start this blog the following text conversation ensued:

Me:      “How much do you know about domains, hosting, etc?”

Boy:    “Very little?”

Me:      “Well I don’t have a clue what I am doing, but I just bought a domain and set up hosting … “

Boy:    “What?!  Nice!”

Me:      “Yes!  I need to get better at taking pictures while we are working.”

Boy:    “I guess I should start wearing shorts at least.”

This is a peek into our disfunctional, quirky, and brave forays in DIWhynot!  Thanks for stopping by.  Feel free to leave a comment with a request for a blog post, such as a certain project we have tackled, a day in the life, what Dirty dog is up to, my craft and furniture projects, the Boy’s recent discovery that Michael’s does not carry fabric, or why I brought wood glue to work in my purse today.

  1. Umm awesome first post. I wish I could borrow some of your sense of humor. And why DO you have wood glue in your purse?

Can’t wait to see what you have in store. Work it, grrrrrl.

    • I have a desk drawer that the bottom keeps falling out of because it refuses to stay in its groove. I named her Stella, and lets just say that with the help of wood glue, some MacGyver skills (binder clips and rubber bands), Stella got her groove back!

  2. Would love to see some tips about your furniture, lighting and accessories projects. I am excited about this blog!

    • Oh, I know, it needs mucho work. It is on our To Do List – for this fall! I have been drooling over beautiful landscaping ideas on Pinterest, but until we make the inside of the house habitable, it is low on our priority list. If you want to come over and tackle it, bring it on! :)

  3. Love it! You are so talented in every way. Now if you can just come to GA for the weekend, I think my house can provide you with plenty of pics and projects for your blog:) As far as the “shorts” go, sex sells so it might improve your ratings, just a thought:)

    • Thanks!! I would love to come do a project at your house! You are right about “sex sells,” but the Boy might disown me if I post a picture of him in his man-panties, so I will refrain.
