About Us

We are just two brave idiots who bought a fixer-upper and decided to tackle major renovations on our own.  We are both attorneys by day, and DIWhynot-ers and bloggers by nights and weekends. The Dog, Dirty, is a sweet girl who likes wiggling her butt into our construction zones.

Our first family photo.

So far, no project has been too large for us to tackle!  We have torn down walls, gutted the kitchen down to the studs and then rebuilt it, laid unfinished hardwood floors in one bedroom (and then finished them!), demolished and rebuilt a bathroom, including turning an absurdly large walk-in shower into a tub.  We had no experience, and are completely learning as we go (shout out to YouTube, Google, Miguel, and that really nice guy at Home Depot!).  I was uploading progress photos to Facebook, and so many of our friends and family have enjoyed watching our adventures that we decided to let complete strangers have a laugh at our expense.

While I have been known to DIY in the strangest of apparel, from the Bikini Drywall Incident circa April, to the Grouting in Underwear Debacle of 2012, the Boy works almost exclusively in boxer briefs.  (Don’t judge – we live in Florida!)  When I decided to start this blog the following text conversation ensued:

Me:      “How much do you know about domains, hosting, etc?”

Boy:    “Very little?”

Me:      “Well I don’t have a clue what I am doing, but I just bought a domain and set up hosting … “

Boy:    “What?!  Nice!”

Me:      “Yes!  I need to get better at taking pictures while we are working.”

Boy:    “I guess I should start wearing shorts at least.”

This is a peek into our disfunctional, quirky, and brave forays in DIWhynot!

  1. Lol-ing at the underwear story, you guys sound awesome! My fiance and I just bought our first house too and we’re also attempting to fix it up with nooooo experience haha. Y’all sound more hard core than us but hopefully we’ll get there too! I’m excited to go through and read all your posts (both the house ones, and the pinbusting ones!). Glad to have found your blog!

    • Hi Katelyn! I’m glad you found us too :) Good luck with your renovations – just do your homework, plan ahead, and you will do fine. We started all of this with no experience too, aside from very minor woodworking stuff. (PS – if you have any particular Pinterest projects you want me to test, let me know!)
